Family Violence Unit

Detective Sergeant Julie Gasparini, presently ( Acting ) Senior Sergeant at Reservoir Police Station  gave an excellent snapshot  of the work of the Family Violence Unit which she leads. This front- line service deals with Family Violence, Child Abuse and Sex offences, in what Julie describes as incredibly rewarding work. Julie highlighted the satisfaction she and team members have when they support  victims of violence, especially when they express their gratitude when cases are brought to court.

Advocacy, protection, and skillfully supporting families who are  violated is key. Julie notes that though we feel despair when we see an increase in number of reports of family violence, she also believes that it means the message is getting through;- family violence needs to be reported !!

            The Government is investing a great deal  in the training of Detectives in Family Violence, and there has been a huge cultural shift within the police force in the way it is managed. Fostering awareness and speaking widely to community groups such as ours, is an important aspect of Julie’s work. It was fantastic to hear of Julie and her team’s work, and Rorary Preston commend her for her passion, care, and excellence in this space.
