The winding Murray River, Lake Hume (six times larger than Sydney Harbour), cultural icons, museums, migrant history, indigenous heritage, and secret resting spots make Albury unique. It was the site of the Rotary District Conference 2025, “Hit the High Notes”, aimed at uniting, inspiring, and transforming.
The Wiradjuri people are the traditional owners of the Albury area. The land was previously known as Bungambrawatha or homeland by the Wiradjuri.
The conference began Friday evening at the Auditorium, Commercial Club Albury, featuring entertainment by the Flying Fruit Fly Circus, a Flag Ceremony by Exchange students, Murray Conservatorium ensembles, and excellent finger food. Attendees traveled by bike, train, plane, and automobile to join the District 9790 Conference 2025.
Preston Rotary, led by President Wayne O’Neill, had over 11 members plus partners in attendance, engaging in fellowship and networking.
Saturday kicked off with District Governor Stephen O’Connell welcoming delegates and guests. Rotary International President’s Representative Ken Mugisha and his wife highlighted their fight to eradicate polio.
Guest speakers included Dr. Graham Sattler, Andrew Kotzur, Mark Balla, Lauren Jackson moderated by Justin Clancy, David Morgan, PDG Dave and Robii Harmon, Leila McDougall, and District Governor Elect Emma Davis. The "All that Glitters Dinner and Dance" featured non-stop music, flowing wine, incredible food, and camaraderie.
Sunday saw attendees dressed in purple, supporting Ballina-on-Richmond’s Domestic & Family Violence project. Julie Morris provided purple ribbons, and Norbet and I attended an inspiring early morning walk along the banks of the Murray River. Our club participated in all activities, including dinners, drinks, and talks, enjoying great fellowship.
District Governor Elect Emma Davis announced next year's conference will be held in Melbourne at 1 Pentridge Boulevard, Coburg Victoria, on March 21st & 22nd, 2026. Let's lock in the date for early bird specials.
