As noted in the recent ‘Rotary Downunder’ issue ( July Issue 673) –“Australian Rotary Health is supporting the next generation of Indigenous health care providers to achieve an education that will help them assist their communities.” …. The yearly scholarships are awarded to indigenous tertiary students as a way to address the barriers of tertiary study and qualification in Australian indigenous populations. The program has supported hundreds of students in achieving successful careers within the health industry.
Rotary Preston supports the Indigenous Health Scholarship program via Rotary Health, and Gerry Lyons attended the recent evening, highlighting some of the scholars within this program. Gerry was particularly struck by the passion and energy of Yorta Yorta woman, Susanne Chambers. Susanne, who hails from Sheparton is studying medicine and hopes to work in regional areas as a G.P. in the future. We wish Susanne all the very best for her studies.
